A Christmas premiere
Fox premiered the series on 17 December 1989 with “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”. “Bart the Genius” had been produced first, but the Christmas episode aired first.

Ordered through season 40
On 2 April 2025 Fox renewed The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers for four more seasons. For The Simpsons that order runs through season 40, with a shorter Fox run and extra episodes for Disney+.

Season 38 has started
Season 37 finished on 26 August 2026. Season 38 premiered on Fox on 27 September 2026 with “The Children's Book Job”. Later episodes of that season are still ahead.
